A Dream To Share And How To Support
2024 Mental Health and Motherhood Virtual Conference is looking for speakers, sponsors, and cheerleaders. Speaker applications due April 15, 2024
In this newsletter you’ll find an appeal for speakers and other details below on the conference itself! Please heart this and share for others who may be interested.
I am writing this to the woman asking if she should try something new. I’m looking for the (18) women who opened the speaker application and closed it before finishing. It is likely that some of you are not a good fit on the theme for this first virtual conference or that the October date is conflicting for your schedule. That’s absolutely understandable but please read on.
I’ve been writing my whole life privately and in online publications, but it took me until I was 27 to add “writer” to my email signature.
In the past 6 years I became a business owner, did podcasts as a guest, did 2 public speaking events, and was a guest speaker on a virtual conference.
On Substack in the past three years I have shared my stories, asked for guest writers to help me do mental health series during October-November months, and recently did a podcast series. I’ve never done a podcast series, let alone one with multiple women in international time zones.
All of these things felt wildly uncomfortable at the time, but in the past 6 years, there was an unrecognized internal switch that came around the time I was preparing for the birth of my daughter. I stopped waiting for someone to give me permission to try hard things.
Becoming a mother made me face life differently because I could no longer wait for someone to greenlight my ideas or my feelings about who I wanted to be. If something needs taken care of, you have to step up.
They ask us, “How do you do it?!” bewildered by hearing we work full time or care for children nonstop or manage to add our hobbies, service work, and date nights into a busy schedule of serving others. We shrug. We do what needs to be done, whatever that looks like in our individual lives.
If you are one of the 18 women who have thought about applying to be a speaker and suddenly felt you were unequipped for the task, I ask you to reconsider. I ask you to simply fill out an application even if it might not be chosen because I don’t want you to deny yourself the opportunity to grow. Please don’t wait for someone to say go for it but also know I’m here saying GO FOR IT!
Speaker applications due April 15, 2024 and selections will be made May 1, 2024
